A portfolio of data applications. Built to be useful, based in Zürich.

About

Alpine Quant Systems builds data applications across sectors and keeps the ones that prove useful. Some run inside partner organisations, some we run ourselves, and the strongest can grow into companies of their own.

Our mission

Careful data work tends to go where capital and data teams already are. We want to put it behind problems that matter for society and the future, and measure ourselves by whether an application is used and whether it holds up.

Where we work

Financial markets, the economy, society, governance, climate and energy. Markets give our methods the fastest feedback, and what we learn there carries into every other field.

See the applications

Working with partners. Bring us the problem.

For organisations, municipalities and smaller companies with a problem worth solving and no data team of their own.

  1. 01

    Understand the problem

Together we look at the problem, who it affects and what a good outcome would be worth, before anyone writes code.

  2. 02

    Agree the scope

Research and a concept, a tested prototype or a working application. We agree which one fits and what it should prove.

  3. 03

    Run a pilot

A small, time-limited pilot with a clear task, tested with the people who will use the result.

  4. 04

    Hand over or grow it

If the pilot holds up, the application moves to the partner, keeps running with us or becomes a company of its own.

Three rules we keep. In every field.

Out of sample, or it does not count

A result only counts on data the model never saw. We seal a test window before fitting anything, and we use it once.

Limits come first

Every application has clear limits on what it decides on its own, set before it goes live. When behaviour changes, it does less until we know why.

Failures get written up

Most ideas fail at the second gate. We publish what failed as well as what worked, because both show what the data can and cannot do.
